How to make iced coffee: don’t.

TL;DR: Below is a real, working recipe for iced coffee at home. It is not difficult. It is just effort, every afternoon, forever. At the bottom is the alternative, which is a fridge with bottles in it. We sell the bottles, so read everything here knowing exactly what we are up to.

The recipe, sincerely

  1. Brew your coffee about 1.5× stronger than you normally would. The ice is coming for it.
  2. Sweeten it while it is hot. Sugar does not dissolve in cold coffee; it just sits there, disappointed.
  3. Let it cool, then refrigerate it fully. Pouring hot coffee over ice is how you make lukewarm sadness.
  4. Fill a glass with ice all the way. Half-ice is cowardice.
  5. Pour, add milk to taste, stir.

Do this correctly and you will have one good glass of iced coffee, a used pot, a sticky spoon, and the same task again tomorrow at 3pm.

The part where we admit the trick

Here is the thing: what we just described — coffee, sweetness, milk, cold, in the right proportions — is literally our entire company. Coffee powder, milk powder, water. Mixed properly. The trick is the ratio, and the ratio is the one thing we will not print.

Or: don't

Ten 300ml bottles, already made, already sweet, already cold. $39. They live in your fridge and take zero minutes each. Buy the 10-pack, shake it, and spend your afternoons on something else.

Questions people actually ask

How do you make iced coffee at home?

Brew coffee stronger than usual (it will be diluted by ice), sweeten it while hot, cool it fully in the fridge, then pour over a full glass of ice with milk to taste. Cooling it properly before icing is the step everyone skips, and it is the step that matters.

What ratio of coffee to water for iced coffee?

Start around 1.5 times your normal strength to survive the ice. The exact ratio is the entire difference between good and watery — ours took a long time to get right, and no, it is not printed anywhere.

Is it cheaper to make iced coffee at home?

Per glass, yes. Once you count the coffee you waste getting the strength wrong, the milk, and the part where you have to make it every single afternoon, $3.90 for a finished bottle is the price of not caring.
